Baby Book – Letters from Mom and Dad

When I brought Casey home from the hospital everyone told me to cherish every single moment, good and bad, because children grow quickly… And they were absolutely right! And being completely sleep deprived for the first year, I was afraid I would forget a lot of those funny, everyday moments.

So, to capture those memories for Casey (and to help jog my own memory!) I decided to write monthly letters to him in his baby book. And – with a little prodding – my husband agreed to do the same.

We took monthly photos of Casey in numbered onesies and wrote down his key stats (height and weight), daily schedule, milestones and funny moments. We also kept a calendar with family events and all of his “firsts” (first tooth, first steps).

Originally, I thought this would be an easy project. I won’t lie to you… It took a lot more time than I thought it would. But it was also a lot of fun and I’m glad we followed through! (In fact, we’ve decided to keep writing letters for his second year as well.)

If anything, I hope this inspries you to try something similar. It’s a thoughtful gift and we will treasure it for years to come!

(PS – Like the beautiful doodles and handwriting fonts? Great news! They’re completely free! Head on over to Fonts for Peas to get your free handwriting fonts! And NO, I’m not getting paid to say that or do I have any sort of affiliation with their website – I just love their work!)

  1. I LOVE your baby book!!!! It’s very creative and really captures everything. I had a question on how you made the calendar on Mixbook. Did you create it on there or did you scan/take a picture of it? I love this idea. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Thank you Patty! I made the calendar in Photoshop, then imported it into Mixbook. I’m in the middle of creating a tutorial on how to do this. (Stay tuned for more!) If you’d like, you can e-mail me at becca.armstrong@who-arted.com and I can send you some of my free calendar templates. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Absolutely adorable! Did you use templates for the monthly stat pages as well or did you do those in mix book?
    Thanks!

  4. The photo books you make for your kids are incredible. Are the backgrounds something you made and imported? I can’t find any like it on mixbook. Thanks!

  5. I love the book! how did you create the two family tree pages?
