Lazy Day

Lazy Day 00

I come from a busy family. Growing up, my brother and I were involved in sports, school activities and part-time work. My parents both had full-time jobs and my Dad farmed in addition to that (crops and livestock). Needless to say, we didn’t have a lot of free time. So once a year, my Mom would randomly pick a day where we didn’t have to do anything.

No chores. No work. No scheduled activities. A self-delcared “lazy day”.

We used this day to rejuvenate. And it was a great opportunity to spend the day together as a family.

Now that I have my own family, I wanted to do something similar. I did a little research and found out Lazy Day actually exists! It’s celebrated every year on August 10th.

So, this year, we decided to take part in Lazy Day! (The best we could with two little ones under the age of two.)

Here’s how we celebrated: I wrote lazy-day reminders on Post-it Notes and spread them throughout the house. I did my best to make the notes rhyme and I tried to stick them where the kids could see them.

The notes told the kids they didn’t have to pick up their toys, make their beds, brush their hair or get dressed.

I really wanted to day to be focused on spending time together with no distractions (phones, television, computer, iPad, etc.), so the notes were nice little reminders throughout the day.

I also made little reminders for my husband and I (no cooking, no iPad, no work phones, etc.).

Lazy Day 03

It was a lot of fun and my son loved finding the Post-it Notes… He also loved not having to make his bed or pick up his toys!

And to be honest, we accomplished quite a bit on Lazy Day. We took a long walk, waved to boats on the river, went on a picnic, and played at both the park and museum. It was a lovely way to spend the day as a family.

No work. No errands. No chores. Just 100% family time.

It was such a relaxing day! I highly recommend starting your own Lazy Day tradition! Everyone deserves a break once in a while! (Especially you hard working Moms and Dads out there!)
