You’ve Been Thank’d

You've Been Thank'd 00

I am a huge believer in Thank You notes. I send them often, and I’m trying to teach my children to do the same.

We’re lucky enough to have several people in our lives who seem to go out of their way to help us out. When this happens, I always feel a Thank You note just isn’t enough.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to find a fun alternative to the Thank You note, and this is what I came up with:

You've Been Thank'd 02

The concept is simple:  make a banner and write a nice thank you note to someone you want to thank. Sneak over to their house when they’re not home, tape the banner and card to their front door, and let them be surprised when they return.

Wouldn’t you love to come home and find your front door like this?

We’ve done three “Thank Attacks” this week. It’s been so much fun showing the special people in our lives how thankful we are for all they do.

Here’s how we made our “Thank Attacks”: First, we grabbed a bunch of colorful paper.

Using stencils, we traced the words “Thank You” onto the paper. Then we cut them out. (We also cut out a few circles to use.)

Once everything was cut out, we laid the letters on the floor the way we wanted them to appear on the banner.

Next I sewed the banner together. I know what you’re thinking… “You sewed on PAPER?” Yes I did, and it works great! Just use a basic sewing machine stitch. Feed each piece into the sewing machine and leave a small gap between letters. I promise, it’s so EASY!! (If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can always string the letters together with ribbon.)

Once the banner was sewn together, I trimmed the thread. So pretty!

I bought some 99-cent thank you cards and we wrote our notes inside. Then we each signed them…

As usual, my son couldn’t wait to sign his name and draw pictures for each person. So sweet!

And that’s it! The next day we snuck over and left our “Thank You” for each person to find later.

This was a very fun activity for our family. I highly recommend trying it for someone you love! Enjoy!
