Meet Scott and Lynda. Two of my closest friends, back from our college days (go Panthers!).
What you see on the surface is a beautiful couple. They are kind, in love, and beyond excited to expand their family.
What’s hiding beneath the surface is heartache.
I still remember the day Lynda told me she was pregnant… Just as clearly, I remember the sadness in her voice when she called a few weeks later to tell me they had lost the baby. It’s a sad, and lonely scenario I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.
To make a difficult situation even worse – it happened again, just a few months later. Something doctors assured them was just “bad luck”.
When Lynda told me, I had trouble finding the words, and the words I did find didn’t seem to be enough. My heart broke for my friends; nobody deserved to go through this twice! There’s a lot of heartache associated with the loss of a baby. And it hits too close to home for too many families.
Needless to say, when Lynda called me a few months ago and told me she was pregnant again, I was overjoyed. And I was honored when she asked me to take some maternity photos for her.
On the day of our session, she brought along two white balloons – one for each of the babies she never got to meet. While Scotty and Lynda were posing and taking photos, they two balloons watched on, swaying in the breeze.
There were smiles, and tears. And I’m honored I was able to be part of the healing process.
Because of everything this family has been through, this is one of the most meaningful sessions I’ve ever done.
There are a lot of emotions in the photos below: happiness, strength, grief, support… But I think the most prominent emotion is love. And there’s one thing I’m certain of: this family has some wonderful days ahead of them.
I wish nothing but the best for these two and I can’t wait to meet Baby Bohlmann!
